The sun shone brightly over Wollongong Harbour on Sunday, 26th January, setting the stage for an unforgettable MMJ Aquathon. As Title Sponsors, it fills us with immense pride to reflect on the day’s success, which was nothing short of extraordinary.
This year marked a particularly special milestone for the MMJ Aquathon as they celebrated the 25th anniversary. Over the years, this event has grown to become a cornerstone on the local calendar, bringing together not just athletes, but families, supporters, and businesses from across the Illawarra region and beyond. Reaching the quarter-century mark is a testament to the enduring spirit of this event and its importance to the community.
Thousands of enthusiastic participants took part, ranging from seasoned athletes to first-timers, all eager to test their endurance in the picturesque coastal waters and scenic surrounds of Wollongong Harbour. This year’s event showcased not only athletic excellence but also the power of community spirit and collaboration.
One of the true highlights of the day was the contribution of our incredible 20-strong volunteer team, fondly nicknamed the “Red Army.” These passionate individuals donned their MMJ-branded red shirts and dove into action distributing merchandise, handing out water, or cheering on competitors, the Red Army’s energy and enthusiasm were infectious. A favourite role for the team is to gather at the finish line to congratulate every participant with a medal and a smile. Their genuine warmth and encouragement embodied the inclusive and uplifting spirit of the MMJ Aquathon.
Community engagement was another standout feature of this year’s Aquathon. MMJ Real Estate were proud to collaborate with local organisers Activate Events and other reputable local businesses who shared our vision of fostering a strong and connected community. From sponsorships to on-the-day support, these partnerships enriched the event and added to the festive atmosphere. Together, it created an experience that was truly reflective of the Illawarra’s vibrant community spirit.
Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Many shared their appreciation for the seamless organisation and the overall celebratory atmosphere.
