Growth in the shared services sector in Wollongong continues with Stellar Asia Pacific committing to more expansion with the addition of a significant new contact centre operation.
Stellar already operates a large contact centre at 43 Burelli Street but needs more room to expand and is opening a second centre in a newly fitted out floor in the A Grade office building at 280 Keira Street, Wollongong.
MMJ commercial leasing director Michael Croghan brokered the deal and said the modern new additional contact centre on level three covered 1,370m2. And that meant plenty of space for many new jobs.
“This is a tremendous for Wollongong. Stellar are a recognised industry leader and have been in Wollongong for many years operating a large contact centre at 43 Burelli Street. This deal is not a sideways move, but a commitment to significant additional capacity, and significant new jobs. The new centre has the capacity for 120 seats, with further potential to grow,” Mr Croghan said.
Advantage Wollongong actively promotes Wollongong as an ideal location for the shared services industry because it recognises the city provides plenty of competitive advantages ranging from affordable living and life style contributing to higher staff retention.
The city also boasts lower office accommodation costs close to Sydney and a large and growing local shared services sector and employment pool.
“This is exactly the type of new business to town we want and should celebrate,” Mr Croghan said.
“It builds on an already strong and growing business sector. When a group like Stellar consider locations for growth they look Australia wide. Wollongong was in competition with numerous other cities. Stellar know the Wollongong story, so their decision to invest here is therefore a clear vote of confidence in what we have to offer”.
Around 50 staff are already working in the new additional call centre. They moved in three weeks ago making Wollongong the only city in Australia with two Stellar contact centres.
